Little true things & some exhibitions chances in Naples...
Hello everyone, since there are many new subscriber (thanks for your interest) since the last one it's time for a little introduction...thanks everyone for any interest.
I am Gabriele Lopez and this is one of the few yearly newsletter I use to keep in touch with friends around. I hope this is something you love, if it’s so just enjoy and maybe send it to someone that could be interested, otherwise you can easily unsubscribe at the bottom of the page.
First time seeing this? you can subscribe for future letters here.
Starting Point
I hope this period finds you fine enough. Spring is here and winter just flew away busy, as usual, on many different things while trying to find some space for beauty and fighting an always too fast clock...
Personally, I have worked a lot in my darkroom this winter, trying to let new things become physical, and trying to let new directions happen. This is true for my job and my photography in general.
Working in my darkroom with many different people exposed me to an unknown generation doing a different use of photography, printing private projects like family stuffs and an intimate personal research.
This was refreshing: a lot of people you know nothing about, just uninterested from the social media or recognition part, using the medium just for a true and personal purpose.
It gave me hope that is not always a show for a "public" and it's what was into my head in the last newsletter about untaken pictures and Trip to Mars, for those who still was not here long enough...
I will show some of those works in the future.
I tried to have some walk in a crowded Milan now and then, looking for pictures...but realised how much hard is for me to take pictures of things that are not really close to me now. It's been a long time since I took some street photography, and I find myself only mindful on people and situations that really touch my life, trying to find something true, simple and beautiful. Few pictures, tight choices.
Focusing in small things, find beauty just around the corner, be present, care for what matters in close personal life, look for.

Trying to find something beautiful, small and true.
Exhibitions
I want to point those who may have a chance to some exhibitions in Naples that I really want to go visit as soon as possible...
First one is from Michael Ackerman in Naples at Spot Home Gallery.
I met Michael in a workshop in Tuscany in 2012, I was exhausted by professional assignments and I was in the period where I wanted to pick my photographs into defined series after a disordered random collection.
I joined the workshop and we met there. It was a really strong experience that questioned a lot, and it went way beyond the workshop days, we are still in touch today.
Michael is a true person, to use a few words, and his work is brave and honest.
I am so sorry I didn't had a chance to go in Naples and meet him once again for the opening, he is still there as I write this but I will sure go and see the exhibition in some time by now and spend some days in the always wonderful and free Naples.
If you have a chance, visit his exhibition because I am sure it's done in a very important moment for him and I know how much of this goes in his work.
We are planning a workshop in Milan, but I'll tell you more in a while from now...just stay tuned.

Michael will anyway work on workshop in Reggio Emilia soon in May, and I think it would be a really good chance to experience what I talked about in a close time distance...

Endless Moment
Another Exhibitions I will for sure visit is MIKAEL SIIRILÄ – ENDLESS MOMENT
Moved by small things and a personal view on the world, I've been touched several times by his work, darkroom work and beauty in the chance of small daily things
We had a few email exchange and for a coincidence it was in the same period of Michael's exhibition. I really checked trains and places but prices and boring jobs decided for me. For sure in Naples I will not miss this chance, as soon as it will be possible.
I even have a friend close to Naples I want to meet again.

Broken Poems
Broken Poems it's and will reamain a small, unpretentious and friendly project I've created to build some projects from people I meet on the road of life. During the years it evolved in different 'zine projects for different people but now I worked together with Cloro on a web-zine that contains personal work and visions from different people. From this and future issues, we will extract some work that will be made in physical form in small numbers and in different ways.
The project is open to collaborations.
You can check out the issue here.

We have the first paper version ready, too...just ask for info.

I am sure you had enough, i hope this has been useful to you, see you somewhere around :)
